Curriculum – Level 2

You are already a speaker. You have a message and experience delivering it. Now you want to earn income. Your need is to learn the business of speaking, income opportunities, how to market yourself and structure your business for greatest success. You are ready for the curriculum in Level 2. 

An overview of Level 2 curriculum is as follows:

MODULE 1

I.   Income – You need a speaking fee and you also need product. Your speaking fee is the rate you will share when people ask you to speak for their organization.

Sometimes organizations cannot pay your full fee and will negotiate a lower rate. This is fine – do as you choose. But select a speaking fee that is aligned with your message and skill level. Keep in mind you may have to negotiate a different rate.

Product enables you to earn income even when the event does not offer a fee. Well-developed product also gives the audience the opportunity to learn more about your topic. It takes years of experience to develop your message. You cannot expect to share the full value of your knowledge in a single presentation. Product allows the audience to go deeper.

Lesson 2   Speaking Fee – Information that helps you discover your speaking fee

Lesson 3   Fee vs. Free – Audio that expresses the value of speaking for free

Lesson 4   Value of Product – Audio that helps you understand how important it is for speakers to have product

Lesson 5   Product Development – Information that enables you to examine the most appropriate products for you to develop

Lesson 6   Income Coaching – Video that shows you how you can take a book and expand it to multiple products

MODULE 2

D.   Distribution – No matter how good you are as a speaker, unless you adequately market yourself you will not be sharing your message. Distribution is marketing and can be done online and offline.

You will learn that you only need a mouth and a mouse to market yourself. A mouth to speak with other people, build rapport, find their needs and discover if they need a speaker. The mouse is to click around the Internet to find speaking engagements. We teach you both in this module.

Lesson 3  Marketing Materials – Information that explains the materials you need to market yourself

Lesson 4  Social Media – Interview with Laura Rubinstein that explains how to use social media as a marketing tool

Lesson 5  Sales and Scripting – Interview with Eric Lofholm to teach you how to sell yourself

Lesson 6  Getting Booked as a Speaker – Interview with Tonya Hofmann to teach you how to book yourself

Lesson 7   Professional Marketing – Information about how professionals can assist you to market yourself

Lesson 8   Marketing Tips – Video with tips to help you with marketing

MODULE 3

S.   Systems – What do you do with all the contacts you receive? The answer is to put them in a CRM (Contact Relationship Management) system. A CRM will retain your pertinent information such as information on business cards from people you meet. You will learn where to store them and how to use them for ongoing contact with your growing fan list.

You will also learn about the legal and management issues to consider to structure yourself as a business. Professional speaking is a business and it is important to structure your business in the beginning.

Module Delivery
It is important that you take your time as you go through the lessons. We want you to absorb the information, reflect on it and make sure the decisions you make as you progress are aligned with each other. This takes time and patience.  

On the other hand, we recognize that some people are ready to move quickly because they have thought about the important elements of becoming a speaker and just need the format to guide them.  

To address the range of needs, the lessons will be delivered to you every three days. Save each lesson to review when you are ready and take time to reflect as you go.

Group Coaching  
Every 4th Tuesday you participate in group coaching session. On these calls, you can ask any question and receive an answer. Or you can forward a question by email.   Even when you do not have a question, listen to the questions and answers of others.
